In 2008 I won a Decibel Penguin Award for a short story about mixed-race identity called Audience, included in the Penguin anthology The Map of Me. In 2010 I was approached by London poetry agency Apples and Snakes about adapting the piece into a ten minute spokenword poem. After rewriting the story as a poem, I worked with director Mike Kirchner to lift the piece from page to stage. This video was taken during the development phase, perfomed to a small audience at The Albany theatre.
I was asked by Sheffield United and FURD (Football Unites, Racism Divides) to take part in a short, educational documentary about the world's first black football player Arthur Wharton. They wanted me to write a poem to accompany the piece, so I came up with 'The Rogue Hero'.
